Voskresensk Сement Plant

Lafarge Cement Russia branch - Voskresenskcement - consists of 2 production sites and Afanasievsky limestone quarry.

Cement plant is situated in 120km south-east of Moscow. Voskresenskcement plant is one of the largest cement sites in Moscow region with production capacity more than 2 mln tons per year.

History of the plant

November 1913 was the starting point in the history of the Voskresensk Cement Plant, which is when the plant was put into operation. The initial installed capacity of the plant was 80 thousand tons of cement per year. The plant was designed with 2 operational lines with the reserve on 3rd one. In 1930, the 3rd operational line was built at the plant allowing the production of 102.2 thousand tons of cement in 1930. The first plant expansion was completed in 1936. By that time, the plant's capacity was 200 thousand tons of cement per year. Construction of the plant itself commenced in 1931, but was stopped in 1932 - 1933 due to financial difficulties, and not restarted until 1935. The plant was called Gigant (Giant), as it was supposed to be the largest enterprise in this industry in Russia. In 1935, 260 thousand tons of cement were produced at the country's largest plant - Proletary. Gigant was supposed to have almost double that plant's production level. The following are the plant specify cations according to the final design:

- design output of 492 thousand tons of cement per year (or 3,180,000 barrels);

- product quality to be cement "000" (three zeros), i.e.,"300" grade;

- main equipment to be provided by the Danish company Smidth; auxiliary equipment to be of domestic production.

In late 1936, construction and equipment installation at the Gigant plant was completed. After 4 years of construction the first kiln began operating. During 1937, another 3 kilns were put into operation. The plant started gathering momentum, and in 1940, 335 thousand tons of cement were produced. In 1969, a chalky flour plant with a capacity of 450 thousand tons per year was built (developer - Afanasievsky quarry) and on January 1, 1969, it was put into operation as a shop of the Gigant plant.

July 1, 1972. The Voskresenskcement Production Association was formed. It included the parent enterprise, the Gigant plant (director N.I.Makarov, who was also the general manager of the Voskresenskcement Production Association), Voskresensk Cement Plant (director I.F. Babaryka), Afanasievsky quarry (director A.A. Tolpygin) and a utility vehicle fleet (director I.G. Moskovskikh).

In 1996, Voskresenskcement plant, the Gigant plant and Afanasievsky quarry formed a partnership with the international company Lafarge, a world leader in the production of building materials.

Voskresensk cement was commissioned to construct several large projects in Moscow Region, in particular the Saturn stadium (Ramenskoye), Moscow Ring Road (MKAD), the district administration building of the city of Voskresensk, residential quarters DSK-1 (series P-44), DSK-2 and 3 (Parus series) in Moscow. Over 80% of the cement produced by the plant is used for supporting operation of companies implementing social housing plans, the national program Affordable Housing, the reconstruction of MKAD and other socially important projects in Moscow and Moscow Region. Cement is also supplied to the markets of Vladimir, Tula and other regions. All products are certified, meeting applicable standards, health certificates, technical specifications, and are accompanied by a quality certificate.

Production investments

In recent years, many production facilities have been modernized. The commissioning of two cement mills equipped with a modern dedusting system ensured reduction of atmospheric dust emissions up to 30 mg/m3, corresponding to European standards. Moreover, new technologies aimed at improving the ecological situation and environmental protection are being implemented.

Gas saving in 2010 equaled more than 16 million rubles. This achievement was recognized at the world level and received cement division award 2010 for the best reduction of gas consumption. In Paris on February 9, 2011 Russian BU was awarded for the best result in gas consumption reduction among Lafarge plants all over the world.
